And found this note to my second old boss (Crystal) from my first old boss (Griffin Smith) about something I’d published back in the very early days of Sync. (I’m a total hoarder.)

His note made me smile. I like how Mr. Smith clarifies exactly which part of this was funny. He’s right. The rest wasn’t all that great.

Cupcake dare

Not even sure how this happened, but Shea boasted that he could put three cupcakes in his mouth at once. Or maybe someone dared him. Anyway, we all gathered around to watch …. and laugh. Arshia documented the whole thing with her camera.

Did he succeeed? Yeah. Was it epic? Nah. But it did make a pretty big mess on the floor.

More barbecue for you

Our short, but sweet, interview with Papa Jack in Benton. (No last name; he’s just Papa Jack and that’s all you need to know.) He won our very arbitrary “Hardest to Get” award because it took us three days and four trips out to Benton to get our mitts on some of his ribs.

Papa Jack made us laugh a number of times during the interview but especially when he commented on his shiny gold tooth as photographer Arshia Khan took a few head shots:

"That's just a little bit of butter on my teeth."

Then at Grandpa’s Barbecue in Cabot, we heard a pretty funny story that didn’t make it into print. Apparently, owner Danny Joslin’s family has a pot-bellied pig for a pet. (This pig is strictly a pet, and we have to wonder if he knows what his owner does all day ….) But anyway, Joslin told a story about how he once took this pet pig to the vet in his Grandpa’s Barbecue business van. Yep, the pig was buckled into the front seat when they stopped at a red light. An unwitting Cabot residet pulled up next to them and casually looked over into his truck to see the pig. Joslin looked over at the same time and the pig followed suit. Joslin said the man looked at the pig, then down at the Grandpa’s logo. Then back at the pig. His face was pure shock.

In other Grandpa’s Barbecue news, we loved this sign outside the restaurant.

We like to keep a written record when awkward and hilarious things emerge from staff members. Here’s a few from the quote wall in the past couple of months … or at least the ones we’re willing to make public.

“If I’m dead my cats can eat me. It’s totally fine.” — Arshia Khan, photographer

“I’d buy porn with Conan O’Brien in it.” — Shea Stewart, writer. He says now he was joking.

“I’ve never seen such a massive toilet spill.” — Arkansas Life writer Nancy Elizabeth Dement, when a toilet erupted on our floor.

“You can’t mess up good sausage.” — Melissa … this quote is taken completely out of context, of course.

“It’s like reading the articles in Playboy.” — Melissa on people who say they go to Hooters for the chicken wings.
